Micaela Hollan - Survivor

Micaela Hollan

Micaela came to Michelle's Place in need of a wig but found so much more than what she though would be a retail wig store.  "Vicki was very kind. Besides helping me with a wig, she showed me the library and other services like the Healthy Steps and Meditation for Better Health classes as well as the Self Help Group.  Needless to say I was there just about every day of the week."

After being diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer in 2008 at age 39, Micaela turned to the Internet to for information and was completely overwhelmed by what she found.

"Participating in the Self Help Group helped a great deal, to talk with other women who had been where I was or were survivors.  A lot of information is shared that I didn't think to ask my oncologist.  I recently decided to have both breasts removed and undergo reconstruction.  The Self Help Group helped me with this decision."

A message Micaela wants to share is one of hope.  "Now it seems like years ago when I was diagnosed.  Cancer no longer defines me.  I have moved on and feel lucky to be alive!"
