Judy Luskleet - Survivor
October 2010 I was flying to Canada and I had a lay over in Minneapolis when I received a call from a nurse telling me I had breast cancer and set up an appointment with a surgeon for later that month. Shock, fear, tears and more tears then 1 hour later I arrived in Canada and smiled for the family. My daughter and friend Becky, a breast cancer survivor, were my support system at all my appointments. Surgery was in November and I choose to have both removed. Breast cancer is in my family and I didn’t want to go through this again. When biopsy came back tissues on the other breast were changing and I would have had cancer there also at a later date. In January my son in law told me about Michelle’s Place. He went in and asked a lot of questions and was very impressed. I went in and met a wonderful woman who was a volunteer and I felt so blest to have met her. I went to a group meeting later at night. You offer so much and I learned so much at the meeting. I moved away from the area but she still called and checked in on me. Sometimes I wasn’t always in a good place but she was always helpful. One time I had just found out that reconstruction was not recommended for me due to I also have Lupus and we have problems of rejection and infections. She made me feel better and reminded me that they (Michelle’s Place) were always there for me and to remember I was alive and cancer free. That meant a great deal to me. This morning she called again and we had a great conversation. I think we both felt good after our conversation. Some day I hope to be able to be a volunteer there or a place like yours but closer to my home. The day I decide I am ready for a prosthesis I will be back at Michelle’s Place for your guidance.
